How To Relieve Anxiety

Chronic worriers need to learn how to relieve anxiety by identifying the difference between:

  • Serious and
  • Non-serious issues

Most people with anxiety problems worry too much about something when in fact there is really no need to. And anxiety robs confidence and self-esteem from people, which is why it should be treated as serious and dealt with before too much damage is done.

Many people suffer from unnecessary worries because they fail to address previous issues in their lives. As problems accumulate, the more they dive into a pit of anxiousness and despair.

Feeling hopeless and helpless, their state of mind dwells only on the negative and this can eventually pose a serious risk on their health - mentally, physically and socially as well.

4 Key Ways To Relieve Anxiety

Breaking the mental habit of anxiety or chronic worrying can be learned. If a person recognizes the need for a change in how things or situations should be perceived, relieving anxiety can be achieved. The following are some self-help techniques on how to relieve anxiety and enjoy a normal life:

  1. Challenge negative thoughts: Instead of dwelling on negative thoughts, challenge these thoughts by questioning yourself on the rationality of having them. Are they worth thinking? Will worrying help you set uncertain things straight? Will you be able to benefit from constant anxiousness about the future? Evaluate your thoughts and discard unnecessary worries that fill your mind.

  2. Accept uncertainty: Most worriers are unable to tolerate uncertainties. They want things to be predictable and come out as planned. They feel anxious about what’s going to happen next, anxious that something may fail or come out unexpectedly. If you are planning to stop worrying, tackle that which you have now and enjoy the present. Take one day at a time and be thankful for what you have now. Life is naturally full of uncertainties – and everyone has them.

  3. Learn to postpone worrying: As problems in life are inevitable, life is too short to keep thinking about them. So you need to develop a plan in your life where you will set a time as your worry period. Make a list of things that make you anxious. And only go over this list when the clock says it’s “worry time.” During the rest of the day, set your mind to be worry-free. You need to train your mind not to let your worries slip through to your thoughts on your non-worry hours.

  4. Learn to relax: Anxiety is the body’s physical fight or flight reaction perceiving threat. When there is really no need to worry, why subject yourself to the health risks of anxiety? You need to relax and take a break. Don’t try to carry the world on your shoulders. Let your hair down and enjoy life. You only live once, so make sure you are living each day to the fullest by doing your best to stay happy and worry-free.
